Questions and Answers

What are your thoughts on cold atmospheric plasma?
Cold Atmospheric Plasma therapy offers several benefits, including promoting wound healing, effectively eradicating pathogens, and supportnig selectively inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. CAP generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS), which play crucial roles in these therapeutic effects by damaging microbial cell walls, modulating inflammation, and inducing cancer cell death. However, there are potential risks of CAP therapy and they stem from the same reactive species, as excessive ROS and RNS can lead to oxidative stress, DNA damage, and unintended cell death in healthy tissues.

NMN or NR supplementations helps with energy. What is your opinion on mitochondrial support with them?
MNM and NR are promoted for enhancing mitochondrial function by boosting NAD+ levels, crucial for efficient electron transport and ATP production. However, the benefits of NMN supplementation can be overstated due to the body’s ability to produce NAD+ from various precursors, including niacin (vitamin B3). Niacin provides the same mitochondrial support by converting to NAD+ through well-established pathways, offering a reliable and cost-effective alternative to NMN. While  NMN may have potential benefits, it is not the only or necessarily the best means of supporting mitochondrial health.

Should we supplement with antioxidants to support the mitochondria?
Taking antioxidants to support mitochondrial function without first improving redox balance can disrupt essential cellular signaling and adaptive responses, leading to imbalances that impair cellular functions. ROS play crucial roles in signaling and mitochondrial adaptation, and excessive antioxidants can neutralize these important molecules, causing reductive stress. Improving redox balance through natural strategies, such as a nutrient-rich diet, regular exercise, optimizing sleep, stress management, and optimizing sunlight and grounding exposure, enhances endogenous antioxidant defenses and supports mitochondrial function. Only after achieving a balanced redox state should additional antioxidant supplementation be considered.

Does a dry sauna followed by a shower help with redox?
Regular sauna use enhances redox balance and cellular health through several mechanisms. The heat stress induced by sauna exposure triggers the production of heat shock proteins and adaptive responses that upregulate endogenous antioxidant defenses, supporting redox balance. It also stimulates mitochondrial biogenesis and improves the efficiency of the electron transport chain by shrinking the water around the respiratory proteins,  enhancing cellular energy production and reducing oxidative stress. Additionally, sauna use promotes vasodilation and sweating, improving circulation and facilitating detoxification. These combined effects make sauna an effective tool for optimizing redox balance and enhancing overall cellular function and health.

How do you know if people need PC? genetic testing?
If you are mammal and have cells, you can benefit from PC!

Can you share the laboratory detail and are these tests available in the UK for Nutritional Therapists?
They are not available for NTP practitioners.

Are you recommending low carb diet?
I recommend a local, seasonal, whole food based diet that is blood sugar stabilizing and built around healthy animal foods. When carbohydrates are not available, like in the winter, low carb is the default state.

Are there any preferred ways you suggest to measure electrons and PH?
There are no direct tests for electrons but you can assess redox through the markers that I discussed in the webinar. Taking a history is a powerful way to assess redox.

What are optimal ranges for BUN/Creatinine ratio? Thank you!
10:1 🙂

What effect would microwave have on the mitochondria water making mechanism?
Exposure to 2.4 GHz microwaves and other electronic devices, have significant effects on mitochondrial function. These microwaves can increase the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage. This disruption can impair the mitochondrial membrane potential and the efficiency of the electron transport chain (ETC), resulting in reduced ATP production and lower synthesis of metabolic water. Exposure to 2.4 GHz microwaves negatively impact cellular energy metabolism and hydration,

If hot baths aren’t possible, can far infrared sauna help?
Saunas can be very helpful

I can’t find TUDCA on the website.
It is not available in the UK – it has to be purchase from the US site. 🙂

If you are dreaming and remembering does that mean it’s a negative sign?
Dreaming is a good sign!

Why are tropical fruits not ok?
Tropical fruits are fine if you live on the equator and they are growing where you live. They are not fine if they are not growing where you live.

Is this test evidenced? If so, can you share the research supporting it.
IGL Germany. You will need to contact the lab.

Can the epigenetic mitochondrial test be ordered in the UK. if so how?
Please contact IGL Germany.

Interesting your point about detoxification. What would you suggest for patients who have toxicity driving oxidative stress? Cell membrane and antioxidant, mitochondrial support before attempting to detox?
Redox before detox. And when you improve redox, detoxification usually follows. Phosphatidylcholine is your best tool to support cellular detoxification while also supporting restoring cellular function.

Have you seen toxic patients ‘blowing up’ when introducing phosphatidlcholine early on in a protocol?
I am not sure what you mean by “blowing up. If you are referring to a reaction, it is not common but some people have subtle reactions to PC when first introduced.

Can you use this test for children?
Yes.

Can you send me some sources supporting the practice of eating seasonally and not getting stuck in ‘winter metabolism’?
Please look at Dr Albert Fritz Pop’s work, Dr Doug Wallace and Dr Robert Naviaux work on winter and summer metabolism.

What was the bodybio product just mentioned?
BodyBio PC and BodyBio Balance oil.

The body bio products have soy in them, if someone has a soy allergy will this affect them?
There are no soy proteins in the BodyBio PC.

You didn’t mention eggs – I assume this would be good to include in a diet of someone with mitochondrial dysfunction – one a day? Or more?
Specifically egg yolks are an excellent source of phospholipids and fatty acids.

What’s the cost of the tests she suggested?
Please contact BodyBio for more information on the RBCFA test and IGL labs Germany for information on their panels.

Is there any mito support which is specific to recovery from Long Covid and aches/pains, fatigue in particular?
I would recommend starting with phospholipids and essential fatty acids. BodyBio PC and BodyBio Balance oil.

I’m just starting to support someone with ME and fatty liver disease. Your talk got me thinking about Body Bio PC for him. What from the Body Bio range would you recommend?
BodyBio PC. Please look at the research on phosphatidylcholine and NAFLD.

You talked about seeing many people who have too high omega 3. I support people with Alzheimer’s prevention and support people with dementia. The fish oil I use has a 3:1 ratio of omega 3 EPA/DHA and evening primrose oil. Is this ok? Are the people you see people who don’t have a supplement with omega 6 as well?
I do not recommend fish oil. The body requires a 4:1 ration of Omega 6:3. A 3:1 ratio of EPA/DHA is not a ratio I endorse.

What do you mean by red tea? Are we talking about the camelia sinensis plant or other herbal red teas please?
Mostly black teas are rich in fluoride. I would recommend purchasing tea from a company testing for toxins and fluoride.
