Dr Dale Bredesen

Dr. Bredesen graduated from Caltech and received his MD from Duke.  He served as Resident and Chief Resident in Neurology at UCSF, then was postdoctoral fellow with Nobel laureate Prof. Stanley Prusiner.  He was the Founding President of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging.

The Bredesen Laboratory studied basic mechanisms underlying the neurodegenerative process, and the translation into effective therapeutics for Alzheimer’s disease, leading to the publication of over 220 research papers. He established the Alzheimer’s Drug Development Network with Dr. Varghese John, leading to the identification of new classes of therapeutics for Alzheimer’s disease.  His work led to the discovery of subtypes of Alzheimer’s disease, followed by the first description of reversal of symptoms in patients with MCI and Alzheimer’s disease, with a precision medicine protocol, and a recent successful proof-of-concept trial.  Dr. Bredesen is the author of two New York Times best sellers. He is currently a professor at UCLA.

Allison Siebecker, ND, MSOM, LAc, is the 2021 Lifetime Achievement recipient from the Gastro ANP. She is instructor of Advanced Gastroenterology, as well as former Medical Director and Co-Founder of the SIBO Center for Digestive Health, at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM). She is IBS faculty for the GI Health Foundation and is the Co-Founder of the NUNM SIBO Symposium and GI Conference- continuing education for physicians. Dr Cate Shanahan is a leading authority on nutrition and human metabolism. ‘Brain Inflammation: Going Beyond Mould in CIRS’

Understanding Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), a term coined over 25 years ago, provides a map to navigate the landscape of the effect of environmental factors, such as biotoxins, on human health. Whilst mould is synonymous with CIRS, actinomycetes bacteria and endotoxins are emerging as key features of human habitats that can contribute to CIRS. There are many wider environmental factors such as cyanobacteria and tick-borne illness that also associate with CIRS, however we will focus in this session on ‘the inflammatory response’, and, in particular, the inflammatory effects on the brain when considering environmental exposure. The central tenet of CIRS is that the ‘host’ response is the key to how the immune, metabolic and hormonal fall-out will affect someone and the full expression of this can be a very individual experience. We will consider symptoms, tests and explore current data to illuminate why we need to go beyond mould …and urinary mycotoxin testing to better understand brain inflammation in CIRS.

About Louise Carder, BSc Nutr. Med., PgDip., mNNA, CNHC Reg., IFMCP, mNAP

Louise is a Nutritional Medicine BSc graduate of the University of West London. She holds memberships with the Naturopathic Nutrition Association (NNA), the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM), National Association of Phlebotomists (NAP) and the British Society of Ecological Medicine (BSEM).

Louise is a Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) Registrant and is also an Associate of the Royal Society of Medicine. Louise previously held posts as Director and inaugural Head of Communications at The British Association of Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT), and was also Chair of the BANT Regulatory Committee. Louise has authored articles and chapters for various publications.

Louise runs a private practice in Lincoln where she specialises in Nutrition whilst utilising the Functional Medicine framework in which she has undertaken several years of post-graduate study including certification with the IFM. Louise was the first Shoemaker Certified practitioner in Europe and continues to be the only Certified Nutrition Professional. This study has led to Louise being a leading expert on inflammatory effects of biotoxin exposures; such as toxic compounds in water-damaged environments and their multi-system effects on human health. Out of this has come a passion project on histamine and its relationship with the immune system. Louise is Director of Colab Services Ltd, a facilitation service for advanced laboratory testing for the healthcare practitioner community. Once Europe-wide this service is now global.
