‘Exploring the gut-brain connection: how pyschobiotics influence mood and wellbeing’

In 2022/23, 875,000 employees experienced stress, depression, or anxiety linked to their jobs, resulting in 17.1 million lost days, about 19 per case, accounting for nearly half of all work-related health problems and over 50% of sickness absence. Additionally, 15.4% of men and 24.2% of women report anxiety or depression. Women often face greater strain, while men frequently delay seeking support, leading to underdiagnosis and delayed treatment.

The gut–brain axis has become a growing area of research, with psychobiotics showing promise for supporting mental wellbeing and stress resilience. Evidence shows that communication between the gut microbiome and the central nervous system influences mood, stress regulation, and emotional wellbeing. Disruption of this pathway has been linked to gut permeability, inflammation, and altered production of neurotransmitters, mechanisms associated with anxiety and low mood.

Cerebiome®, the world’s most studied psychobiotic, has over 10 years of research and eight modes of action, offering a unique approach to supporting mental wellbeing through the gut–brain axis. This webinar will review the latest clinical research and provide practical guidance for integrating psychobiotics into clinical practice.

‘Menopause and the Vaginal Microbiome: How Hormonal Shifts Affect Vaginal Health’

During the menopausal transition, hormonal shifts significantly impact the vaginal microbiome. These changes can lead to a decrease in microbial diversity and contribute to common issues like vaginal dryness, atrophy, and increased susceptibility to infections.

In this session, Dr. Sally Moorcroft will explore how hormonal fluctuations influence the vaginal microbiome and overall vaginal health. Attendees will learn about the connection between oestrogen, microbiome balance, and conditions such as bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections, providing valuable insights into managing vaginal health during menopause.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the hormonal changes during menopause and how they impact the vaginal microbiome and vaginal health.
  2. Identify key shifts in the vaginal microbiome that occur during perimenopause and post-menopause, including changes in microbial diversity and composition.
  3. Explore the role of oestrogen in maintaining vaginal microbiome balance and how its decline during menopause affects vaginal health.
  4. Recognise the implications of vaginal dysbiosis during menopause and its connection to conditions like bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections.
